Home: Dressing table decoration

New post on NLTH - Dressing table decoration

This dressing table was found at the side of the road and I was kindly allowed to take it home. Since then, it’s been my firm favourite item of furniture. I have no idea how old it is, but I love its second hand style.

The back of this dressing table has a slight edge, which is perfect for resting artwork on. As a renter, nails in the wall are a bit no-no. So, I’ve got creative, and propped my…

Home: A look at my desk & workspace

New post on NLTH - A look at my desk & workspace

My desk is one of my favourite areas in the house. It’s where I spend a lot of my time completing my coursework, so it’s lovely to have pretty surroundings to work in.

I’ve tried to keep the clutter off my desk, storing it instead in my drawers, shelves and storage boxes. The desktop is simple, including a second, larger screen for my laptop, a 1930s-40s Kilner Jar filled with pennies, a file…

Home: Organising a rainbow coloured bookcase

New post on NLTH - Organising a rainbow coloured bookcase

My bookcase was a disorganised mess until I was inspired by pretty Pinterest pictures like this  and this to get organising. A little while later, I had a collection of rainbow books, organised by colour.

This Ikea Galant shelf unit was a buy of mine back in my initial bedroom storage crisis. It’s sturdy enough to hold my heavy coffee table books, all about interior design.

I filled the top…

New post on NLTH - Interview: Ben Harrison on The Lounge Garden, Grand Designs Live 2014

After experiencing Ben Harrison’s entry into Grand Designs Live Garden Designer of the Year first hand at my last visit to the show in 2013, I was looking forward to seeing his contribution to this year’s London 2014 exhibition. The competition has fast become my favourite element of Grand Designs Live, and as expected, Ben’s garden didn’t disappoint.

Welcomed by a wealth of orange, from vibrant…

Blognix 2014

Saturday 14th May I was especially happy. Why? Because I was heading off to Blognix 2014, my first blogging conference! Blognix was founded by Elizabeth Sellers of Rosalilium, a beautiful lifestyle blog I found through a speaker at my university. Blognix is held in The Custard Factory, Birmingham, which is local to me so I definitely had to attend!

Blognix is a conference to create a space for…

Photo tour of the living room

Photo tour of the living room

Our living room is definitely the heart of the house. The neutral decor made it a reasonably blank canvas, and the room came with just the two sofas, a coffee table and Ikea chair. We have filled the room with furniture and colourful cushions, making it a functioning space which we do most of our living in.

We aimed to create a welcoming, relaxing atmosphere. We have a lot of guests come to…

Luxury lighting at Grand Designs Live 2014

New post on NLTH - Luxury lighting at Grand Designs Live 2014

There was a wealth of lighting choices at this year’s Grand Designs Live at the ExCel in London. As one of the key elements to creating a desirable interior, it’s safe to say lighting is pretty important in a home. It can transform a small space into a seemingly large one. It can create the perfect ambiance for your living area. But while the light itself is wonderful, the fixtures themselves can…

Travel: Palais de Bahia, Marrakech, Morocco

New post on North Leads To Home - Travel: Palais de Bahia, Marrakech, Morocco

On our last day in Marrakech we decided to visit the Palais de Bahia. As an architecture appreciator, I was looking forward to finally getting to see inside a Moroccan palace! Unfortunately, the weather was rubbish, but we wouldn’t let that put a dampener on our last day. We layered up and set out with out map and a vague idea of where we were going.

A patisserie surprise

As it turned out, the…
